The Huaca Mamuil River is a classic mountain spring creek that begins in Lanin National Park and flows through Estancia San Huberto before joining the Malleo River.

Its pristine, transparent water creates outstanding sight-fishing opportunities. Anglers move carefully along intimate pools, riffles, bends and drop-offs, searching for wild brown and rainbow trout in a remarkably secluded setting.

The Huaca Mamuil is one of our favorite early-season fisheries, usually at its best from November through late December. Light tackle, accurate presentations and a willingness to walk are rewarded with a very personal style of fishing.

These photographs show the changing character of the river—from broad mountain landscapes and araucaria forest to close encounters with selective trout. Access is arranged through San Huberto Lodge, whose internal estancia roads reach this remote water.
