30+ Miles by Drift Boat
Plus roughly 12 miles of smaller channels and wadeable water, all within the ranch's extensive private access.
The Ranch
Set within an 80,000-acre ranch in the high desert landscape of northern Patagonia, Limay River Ranch is a purpose-built fly fishing lodge offering exceptional access to the clear waters of the Limay River. With the river just steps from the lodge, anglers can spend more time fishing and less time traveling, while enjoying one of Argentina’s most diverse and productive wild trout fisheries.
The lodge accommodates a maximum of 12 anglers in six private, double-occupancy cabins, creating an intimate and relaxed atmosphere. Each cabin offers approximately 360 square feet of interior space and features a private bathroom, heating and air conditioning, a wood-burning stove and an outdoor deck overlooking the peaceful Patagonian surroundings.
High Desert, Clear Water
Days on the Limay unfold between wide desert skies and clear tailwater riffles — full days of fishing, followed by warm hospitality and hand-crafted dinners back at the ranch each evening.
The Fishing
Flowing through the vast Patagonian steppe, the Middle Limay is one of Argentina's most exciting and diverse wild trout fisheries — a powerful tailwater with clear water, abundant insect life and healthy populations of resident rainbow and brown trout.
Day float trips combine time on the oars with the chance to wade productive water, keeping the action non-stop throughout a multi-day stay.
The river also receives a seasonal run of migratory brown trout from the Ezequiel Ramos Mexia Reservoir, entering the system in December and remaining through the season — with browns over 20 inches a realistic possibility, and exceptional fish reaching well beyond 30.

Flowing through the vast Patagonian steppe before reaching the Ezequiel Ramos Mexia Reservoir, the Middle Limay River is one of Argentina's most exciting and diverse wild trout fisheries. This powerful tailwater supports healthy populations of resident rainbow and brown trout, while its clear water, abundant insect life and varied structure create opportunities for many different styles of fly fishing.
Although the Limay is well known for large streamers and trophy brown trout, it offers far more than a traditional big-water fishing experience. Long riffles, rocky drop-offs, cut banks, deep pools and a network of smaller side channels allow anglers to alternate between drifting from a boat, sight fishing, working dry-dropper rigs and wading productive water.
Summer hatches generally begin toward the end of November and continue through January, producing excellent surface activity. From mid-January through mid-March, terrestrial patterns become increasingly important, while foam dries and large attractors can bring surprisingly large trout to the surface. As autumn approaches, new hatches build in intensity and provide another distinctive period of dry-fly fishing.
In addition to its resident trout, the river receives a run of migratory brown trout from the Ezequiel Ramos Mexia Reservoir. We call them Silver Browns — fish of a strikingly aggressive, explosive nature that won't hesitate to crush large attractors and mice, as well as streamers. Browns routinely push past 20 inches, and just when you least expect it, you'll hook one well over 30.
Through the ranch's extensive private access, guests can explore more than 30 miles of river by drift boat, together with approximately 12 miles of smaller channels and wadeable water. The variety and scale of this access make it possible to fish new sections throughout a multi-day stay, combining solitary floats, technical sight fishing and active sessions in riffles and side channels.
From aggressive rainbows and delicate dry-fly presentations to the possibility of encountering a truly exceptional migratory brown, the Middle Limay rewards anglers with variety, challenge and the sense that every bend may reveal something entirely different.
The Cabins
Limay River Ranch accommodates up to 12 guests in six spacious, independent cabins designed to provide privacy and comfort after a full day on the river. Each cabin can be configured with one double bed or two separate twin beds, making it equally suitable for couples, friends and fishing partners traveling together.
Every cabin features a private en-suite bathroom, an outdoor deck and approximately 360 square feet of interior space. Heating and air conditioning units provide both warm and cool air — a rare amenity among Patagonian lodges, and a real plus for guests fishing during the warmer months of the season.
On cooler days, a traditional wood-burning stove adds an extra touch of Patagonian warmth. The lodge staff lights it daily, so guests return from fishing to a cabin that's already warm, comfortable and welcoming. Built with both comfort and sustainability in mind, the lodge operates primarily with solar energy stored in lithium batteries, supported by an automatic backup generator, and high-speed Starlink internet keeps guests connected throughout their stay.
Whether the goal is to fish from dawn until evening or enjoy the Limay at a more relaxed pace, the lodge's riverside location makes every day flexible, comfortable and centered around the fishing.

Evenings at the Ranch
At the center of the property, the main lodge brings guests together after a day on the river. Its comfortable living room, dining area, open bar and outdoor deck provide the perfect setting to enjoy a glass of Argentine wine, exchange fishing stories and watch the evening settle over the ranch.
Meals are an important part of the Limay River Ranch experience. The lodge’s chef prepares generous, carefully crafted dishes designed to complement long days on the water, combining attentive service with the informal hospitality for which Patagonia is known.
