Fly Fishing at San Huberto

the Malalco stream - a peace of water you will never forget
the malleo river

The Malleo River is synonymous of "Dry Fly Action", that is why people from all over the World know about it.

About 19 miles of this legendary river run through San Huberto's property, and accessing the fishing pools is easy and quick driving through the estancia private roads.

Casting dry flies to actively feeding browns and rainbows has become a passion hard to control to many of our guests that season after season come back looking for a new challenge.

The Malleo runs smoothly through a wide valley changing its speed and structure slowly through its way down to the Alumine River.

The strectch of river that runs through the property is so long, that to make things easier we divide it in two sections. The upper part fished from San Huberto, refered by the guides us "Malleo arriba or 3 picos" provides ideal conditione consider it "a sight fishing and dry fly paradise" and unique world wide.

I wouldn't hesitate to say that this magnificent river provides the best structure and predictable hatches in the entire Patagonia Argentina. With very easy wading bottoms, cut-banks, small rock areas, weed-beds, some shallow riffles, deep pools, slow curves... what can I say, just perfect!

The Malleo River is an "ONLY WADING" river!

the Malalco stream - a peace of water you will never forget
the huaca mamuil river

Smaller and fishable during November, December and depending on the year we could add January too,THE HUACA MAMUIL River runs directly out from the National Park and Huaca Mamuil Lagoon into the Malleo River.

Several miles of pristine gin-clear waters run through the valley, all accesible through San Huberto's internal roads.

This small stream offers incredible sight fishing and its really loaded with big browns and rainbows.

Beautiful mid-morning hatches can be amazing. Small size #16 stoneflies hatch usually during the cooler days during November and a big part of December. Small mayflies y caddices also hatchduring the mornings.

When the heat of the summer comes and the water level drops many of this fish migrate to the Malleo river and a few remain in some of the deeper pools.

So if your trip is during our late spring or ealry summer, there is no doubt that you should consider fishing this unique water at least for a day. You won't regreat it!

take a look to some cool fly fishing shots from th Huaca Mamuil river

tromen lake

Try to imagine a perfect and totally natural lake, located in the middle of the Andes mountain range, with crytal clear water and loaded with big browns, brook trout and rainbows that easily go over 20 inches.

the Malalco stream - a peace of water you will never forget

A good number of trout are either surface feeding on cruising not too deep, which makes sight fishing a lot of fun.

When the dragon flies are hatching the reeds areas turn into a war zone! Its so much fun!

Describing the beauty of this remote place only with words, seems unfair and is just hard, you better sign in and see it by yourself!

I know many anglers that told me..."I'm not a lake fisherman" and after fishing Tromen Lake once, they repeat it at least a day in every trip!
